Work injury care for the whole Sutherland Shire

The Shire is full of workplaces that put a load on the body, from the retail floors and offices around Westfield Miranda and the Kingsway, to the trades and warehousing out at Taren Point and Kirrawee, hospitality along Cronulla, and healthcare across the local hospitals. We treat injured workers from all of it, from our clinic in Miranda that sits central to the Shire.

Getting in is easy with early, evening and weekend appointments that fit around suitable duties and shift work. If you cannot make it that week, PACT Virtual Care carries your treatment and reporting on by telehealth across NSW.

Work injury is different

A physio who knows the claim side as well as the injury

Good hands on treatment is only half of a work injury. The rest is the claim. Your physiotherapist writes the recovery reports your case manager relies on, recommends the capacity that feeds your Certificate of Capacity, works alongside your rehabilitation provider, and helps shape the plan that gets you back on the tools or back at the desk safely. When that side is handled poorly, the paperwork is what holds your recovery up.

Andrew Ellis built PACT on the back of a decade inside the occupational rehabilitation system. Before the clinic he was a Senior Rehabilitation Consultant with national providers and a Senior Workplace Health and Safety and Injury Management Advisor inside large Australian organisations, managing injured worker caseloads, writing return to work plans and advising employers and insurers on how a claim should run. Shire employers, case managers and rehabilitation providers get the benefit of that every time we report on one of their workers, because the reports are written by someone who used to receive them.

Your rights

The choice of physio is yours

Your employer or the insurer might hand you the name of a clinic near the workplace. That is a suggestion, not an instruction. NSW law gives you the right to choose your own SIRA approved physiotherapist, and to change to a different one at any point in the claim. Many workers start at a clinic near the job site and move closer to home once suitable duties begin. If you switch to PACT midway, we start with one pre approved session and take the approval paperwork off your hands.

A GP referral is not required to begin. Where your injury has not previously been treated by a physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath or accredited exercise physiologist, and treatment starts within three months of the injury, SIRA allows up to eight consultations on an accepted claim before any further approval is needed. Different circumstances change that number, for example up to three where treatment begins more than three months after the injury, so we confirm exactly where you stand with your insurer or case manager first.

Insurers

Billed direct to your insurer, nothing to pay at the desk

Shire workers come to us insured through every part of the scheme. We bill the icare scheme agents direct, including EML, Allianz, Gallagher Bassett, QBE and DXC, plus the self insured employers a lot of local people work for, and interstate schemes where NSW treatment is approved. WorkCover Queensland claims are managed here as well.

Invoices go to the insurer at SIRA rates, so nothing is asked of you at the front desk. No bill, no rebate to chase, no gap on an accepted claim, from your first assessment in Miranda through to your final discharge report. Outside a claim, a private initial appointment is $165 for 60 minutes and a follow up is $142 for 40 minutes.

Who you will see

Led by Andrew Ellis

At Miranda you will see Andrew Ellis, our founder and principal physiotherapist, or a physiotherapist working to the approach he built. Andrew is AHPRA registered and SIRA approved. The standard does not shift depending on whose name is in the diary.

Local case managers, rehabilitation providers and Shire employers rely on that. Reports that arrive when we say they will, capacity advice that stands up, and a return to work plan that lines up with what the worksite can genuinely offer.

Cost

No out of pocket cost

On an accepted workers compensation or CTP claim, your treatment is billed directly to the insurer. There is no gap and nothing for you to pay at your appointment, and we handle the invoicing for you. If you are a private patient, see our fees.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

Do you treat workers from across the Sutherland Shire?
Yes. Our Miranda clinic is central to the Shire and treats injured workers from Cronulla to Menai to Engadine and everywhere between, and PACT Virtual Care covers the rest of NSW by telehealth. On an accepted claim both are billed direct to the insurer with nothing for you to pay.
Can I choose my own physio for my workers comp claim?
Yes. NSW gives you that right, and it holds no matter which clinic your employer or the insurer suggests. You can also change physios midway through the claim, so if you started somewhere near the workplace and would rather be treated closer to home in the Shire, you can. We begin with one pre approved session and take care of the approval paperwork from there.
How many physio sessions do I get before approval?
Up to eight consultations on an accepted claim, provided your injury has not already been treated by a physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath or accredited exercise physiologist and treatment starts within three months of the injury. Other situations differ, for example up to three consultations where treatment begins more than three months after the injury. Once that initial allowance is used, we lodge an Allied Health Treatment Request with your insurer and keep going once it is approved. We confirm your exact arrangement with the insurer or case manager before we start.
Do I need a GP referral to see a physio on workers comp?
No. SIRA rules let you start physiotherapy on an accepted claim without one. Bring your claim number and we can begin. Your Certificate of Capacity still comes from your nominated treating doctor, and we work in with your local GP on capacity, but your treatment does not have to wait on a referral.
Which insurers do you bill directly?
All icare scheme agents including EML, Allianz, Gallagher Bassett, QBE and DXC, plus self insured employers and interstate schemes where NSW treatment is approved. We also manage WorkCover Queensland claims. If you are not sure who your insurer is, bring your claim number and we will work it out.
How fast can I be seen?
Usually within a few days. We are open seven days with appointments to 9pm on weekdays, which suits Shire workers on shift work or suitable duties, and telehealth fills any gap. Early treatment is strongly linked to better recovery on work injuries, so new claims go to the front of the queue.
