Dry needling minutes from Caringbah

Caringbah sits between Miranda and Cronulla, so our clinic is a short trip along Port Hacking Road or the Kingsway, with early and late appointments to fit around work and the school run. There is no need to treat dry needling as a line item on a long list of techniques when the real thing is this close.

Andrew Ellis, our founder and principal physiotherapist, has focused on trigger point dry needling since 2012 and runs the @thedryneedlingphysio channels. We find the muscle actually driving your pain first, then use needling as one part of a plan built around the problem, not a set recipe of points.

The basics

What trigger point dry needling actually is

Trigger point dry needling places very thin, sterile, single use needles into the tight bands of muscle known as trigger points, to release tension, settle the referred pain, and let the muscle move freely again. It is a physiotherapy technique grounded in anatomy.

It is not acupuncture, which follows the traditional Chinese medicine map of the body. Dry needling targets the specific trigger point driving your symptoms, based on how you move. We always pair it with hands on treatment and exercise so the change holds.

What it helps

For workers, shift work and stubborn knots

With the Taren Point business area on one side and the local hospital precinct nearby, Caringbah has plenty of manual workers and shift workers, and both tend to carry tight shoulders, forearms and low backs. Dry needling helps most with that knotted, achy pain and the referred aches that follow, as one part of a wider plan. If it is a work injury on an accepted claim, we bill your insurer directly.

Who you will see

Led by Andrew Ellis

PACT was founded by Andrew Ellis, who has focused on trigger point dry needling since 2012 and shares dry needling education with a community of around 15,000 followers through @thedryneedlingphysio. He is also the founder and host of World Health Webinars, an online education platform that delivered courses to more than 5,000 clinicians across 14 countries.

That depth sets the standard for the clinic. Whoever you see at PACT works to the same approach Andrew built, so you get the same careful assessment and the same reasoning behind every needle.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

How far is the clinic from Caringbah?
Just up the road. From Caringbah, PACT Physio & Rehab at Unit 1/196 Sylvania Road, Miranda is a short trip along Port Hacking Road or the Kingsway, with free parking at the front door. Book online or call (02) 8330 6776.
Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?
No. Dry needling is a physiotherapy technique that targets trigger points in muscle, based on anatomy. Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and follows a different map of the body. They use a similar needle but the reasoning behind where it goes is different.
Does dry needling hurt?
Most people feel only a small prick followed by a brief muscle twitch or dull ache as the muscle responds. Any soreness afterwards is usually mild and settles within a day, much like the day after a workout.
Can I use dry needling on a workers comp claim?
Yes, where it is clinically appropriate as part of your treatment. On an accepted NSW workers compensation claim we bill your insurer directly, so there is no gap for you. We confirm your cover before we begin.
How much does a session cost and can I get in the same day?
Initial physiotherapy is $165 for 60 minutes and follow ups are $142 for 40 minutes. We are open 7 days and same day appointments are often available, so book online or call (02) 8330 6776.
