If your extras cover includes physiotherapy, you can use it at PACT. We see members of every Australian health fund at our Miranda clinic, claiming is straightforward, and you always know the fee before you book.
Extras cover and physiotherapy, in plain English
Extras cover, sometimes called ancillary or general treatment cover, is the part of private health insurance that pays a benefit toward services like physiotherapy. Health funds pay extras benefits for consultations with AHPRA registered physiotherapists, and every physiotherapist at PACT is AHPRA registered with a Medicare provider number at our Miranda clinic.
How much you get back is set by your policy, not by us. It depends on your level of extras cover and how much of your annual physiotherapy limit you have left. Our fees are simple and upfront, $165 for a 60 minute initial appointment and $142 for a 40 minute follow up, so once your fund quotes your benefit you know your exact gap before you ever walk in.
Claim on the spot or through your fund
Bring your membership card and you can claim on the spot at the clinic, paying only the gap on the day. If you prefer, pay in full and claim back through your fund. Every receipt we issue carries the provider details and item codes your fund needs, and the major funds all let you submit a claim in minutes through their member app or website.
Telehealth is a little different. Some funds pay extras benefits for telehealth physiotherapy consultations and some do not, so if you are seeing us through PACT Virtual Care it is worth checking your policy with your fund first.
Members of every Australian fund are welcome
Most of our privately insured patients are with one of the four largest funds, and we have a dedicated page for each of them covering how claiming works and what to expect.
We also regularly see members of Australian Unity, Teachers Health, Nurses and Midwives Health, Defence Health, Police Health, Emergency Services Health, CBHS, HBF, GMHBA, Westfund, Peoplecare, ahm, GU Health, St Lukes Health and Phoenix Health. If your fund is not listed here, that is not a problem. Any Australian health fund whose extras policy includes physiotherapy can pay a benefit toward your treatment at PACT.
Know your limits and when they reset
Every extras policy sets an annual limit on physiotherapy benefits, and on most policies that limit resets on 1 January, with unused benefits generally not carrying over. Your fund's member app or a quick phone call will tell you exactly how much you have left for the year.
New policies also often carry a short waiting period for extras services like physiotherapy, typically around two months, so if you have recently joined or upgraded your cover it is worth confirming your waiting period has passed. If you are partway through a rehabilitation program, knowing your remaining limit helps us plan your sessions sensibly across the year.
Medicare, workers compensation and CTP options
No extras cover does not mean no options. Where you are eligible, a Medicare Chronic Disease Management plan from your GP contributes toward a set number of physiotherapy sessions each year, bringing an initial to $103.20 and a follow up to $80.20 after the $61.80 Medicare rebate.
If your injury happened at work or in a motor accident, an accepted workers compensation or CTP claim usually means nothing to pay at all, because we bill the insurer directly for approved treatment.
Unhurried appointments that make your extras count
An initial appointment at PACT runs a full 60 minutes, one on one with your physiotherapist, and follow ups run 40 minutes. That is the whole session spent on assessment and treatment, not a quick once over. Where clinically appropriate, trigger point dry needling is delivered within the standard consultation rather than billed as a separate service, so a session that includes it is still claimed as physiotherapy.

What you will actually pay
The full fee is $165 for an initial visit and $142 for a follow up, and every appointment is a full, unhurried session with the time to work through complex, persistent problems. Once your cover is applied, here is what you actually pay.
Before any rebate. Private paying is welcome, and your fee buys the whole session, never a rushed 20 minutes.
A GP Chronic Disease Management referral rebates $61.80 on every visit, up to 5 a year.
The usual out of pocket once you claim on the spot, depending on your level of cover.
Nothing for you to pay at any visit. Accepted workers compensation and CTP motor accident claims are billed straight to your insurer, and we handle the paperwork.
