Trigger point dry needling
Fine needles into trigger points to release muscle tension and ease referred pain. A core focus at PACT.
What it is
Trigger point dry needling places very thin, sterile needles into the tight bands of muscle known as trigger points. The aim is to release that tension, ease the pain it refers elsewhere, and help the muscle move freely again.
It is a physiotherapy technique grounded in anatomy. It is not acupuncture, which comes from traditional Chinese medicine. Dry needling is a core focus at PACT, with more than 14 years dedicated to the technique. Andrew is the physiotherapist behind the @thedryneedlingphysio channels, and uses needling alongside hands on therapy and exercise, never on its own, so the cause is addressed rather than just the symptom.

Dry needling is a skill, and Andrew has focused on it since 2012
Andrew Ellis has performed trigger point dry needling since 2012, and it is one of the core focuses of his practice. He is the physiotherapist behind @thedryneedlingphysio, where he shares technique and education, and the founder and host of World Health Webinars, an online education platform that delivered courses to more than 5,000 clinicians across 14 countries.
At PACT, needling is always paired with hands on therapy and a clear exercise plan, never used on its own, so the cause is addressed and not just the symptom.
Choosing your clinician matters. Training and experience with the needle vary from one clinician to the next, so it is worth doing your homework before you book with anyone. You can read what Andrew's patients say, independently, on Google.

How it works at PACT
Assess first
We assess how you move and find the trigger points driving your pain before any needle goes in.
Treat
Fine needles are placed into the trigger points. You may feel a brief twitch or dull ache, which usually settles in moments.
Settle and reinforce
Some people feel mild soreness for a day, much like after a workout. We pair the session with simple steps to keep the muscle settled.
Common problems we use it for
A few of the injuries and conditions where trigger point dry needling often plays a part. It is always one piece of a wider plan.

What you will actually pay
The full fee is $165 for an initial visit and $142 for a follow up, and every appointment is a full, unhurried session with the time to work through complex, persistent problems. Once your cover is applied, here is what you actually pay.
Before any rebate. Private paying is welcome, and your fee buys the whole session, never a rushed 20 minutes.
A GP Chronic Disease Management referral rebates $61.80 on every visit, up to 5 a year.
The usual out of pocket once you claim on the spot, depending on your level of cover.
Nothing for you to pay at any visit. Accepted workers compensation and CTP motor accident claims are billed straight to your insurer, and we handle the paperwork.
The bars compare what an initial and a follow up visit cost you on each pathway.
See full fees and rebates. Telehealth with PACT Virtual Care is charged at the same rates, Australia wide.
Other ways we can help
Most plans combine a few of these. We use whatever the assessment says will move you forward.
