Spinal and joint mobilisation

Gentle, controlled movement to improve a stiff joint and ease the pain that comes with it.

The treatment

What it is

Spinal and joint mobilisation uses gentle, controlled movements to improve how a stiff joint moves and to settle the pain that comes with it. It is commonly used through the neck and back, and for stiff shoulders, hips and other joints.

The movements are graded to your comfort and paired with exercise so the improvement lasts. It is hands on, gentle and adjusted to how you respond on the day.

What to expect

How it works at PACT

1

Assess

We pinpoint which joints are stiff or sensitive and how that links to your symptoms.

2

Mobilise

Slow, controlled movements within your comfort improve range and ease pain.

3

Strengthen

Targeted exercise locks in the new movement so it does not stiffen straight back up.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

Is it the same as a chiropractic adjustment?
No. Mobilisation uses slow, controlled movements within your comfort, not the rapid high velocity thrusts used in some manipulation. It is graded to how you respond.
Will it click or crack?
Not usually. Mobilisation is gentle and gradual. The goal is smoother, less painful movement, not a noise.
How soon will it help?
Many people feel easier movement quite quickly, though lasting change comes from pairing it with the exercise side of your plan.
How much does it cost?
Initial physiotherapy is $165 for 60 minutes and follow ups are $142 for 40 minutes. Approved workers comp and CTP appointments are billed directly to the insurer.
