Ankle sprains

A rolled ankle that needs proper rehab to rebuild strength and prevent re injury.

The condition

What it is

An ankle sprain happens when the ligaments are overstretched, usually by rolling the ankle. It is one of the most common injuries, and while many settle on their own, poor rehabilitation is a big reason ankles keep getting sprained.

Signs

Everyone is different, but these are common with ankle sprains. You may have some and not others.

Treatment

How physiotherapy helps

We assess the ankle to gauge the sprain and rule out anything more, settle the early swelling and pain, then build a program that restores strength, movement and balance. That balance and strength work is what lowers the chance of spraining it again.

  • Ankle assessment
  • Early swelling and pain management
  • Strength and balance program
  • Graded return to sport or work

Frequently asked questions

Good to know before you book

My ankle keeps rolling, why?
Often the strength and balance were never fully rebuilt after the first sprain. A targeted program usually makes a real difference.
How much will it cost?
Initial physiotherapy is $165 for 60 minutes and follow ups are $142 for 40 minutes. Approved workers comp and CTP appointments are billed directly to the insurer.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to book privately. Referrals are required for Medicare Chronic Disease Management plans and most claim pathways.
Can it be managed by telehealth?
Many problems can be assessed and guided well by telehealth through PACT Virtual Care, with hands on treatment added at the Miranda clinic when it helps.
